Public Transport to and from the Sixth Form College, Colchester

The table is a summary of the main options available to ALL college students for travel by public transport (bus or train) for the academic year 2023/2024. It is offered as guidance only. As details emerge for the 24/25 academic year, we will update this page; this is likely to occur in August '24.

This information is provided as a guide for parents to help them to select the best option for their son/daughter to travel to college. The College does not operate or support any transport services and has no financial connection with any operators shown below. We have worked hard to ensure that the information below is as accurate as possible, but please note that it is issued for guidance only and final confirmation of pricing and other details will be provided by transport companies at point of purchase.

First Essex Buses

First Bus provide our students with a discounted rate in the form of an mTickets via the Student Travel Club (STC).

This ticket service will enable instant access to your bus pass on your smart phone whilst still receiving the benefit of the discounted rate unique to Colchester Sixth Form College students.

Colchester Borough Card

The Colchester Borough Card allows unlimited bus travel in and around Colchester on First Essex, Arriva Colchester, Panther Travel, Ipswich Buses, Stephenson’s of Essex, and Hedingham Omnibuses.

Tickets can be purchased via the First Bus App, Anglian Buses App or Arriva Bus App.

Day and Week tickets can be purchased on bus.

Greater Anglia

To purchase a student discounted ticket, apply on line at https://railplus.greateranglia.co.uk/scholars.html

You may apply for an Annual, Termly or Monthly ticket.

The scholar’s monthly subscription option is only available for a very short period in late August/early September at the start of the Academic year.

Consecutive termly tickets may be ordered up to four weeks prior to the start of the following term.

On average young adults aged 16-18 could save up to 57% off the price of an Adult Annual Academic Pass compared to buying a full priced ticket at the station. We’ve even extended this to our Short Year Academic Passes and a saving of up to 50% off the price of a Termly ticket for our young adults.

Students require their Student ID number to purchase their ticket. This is issued during enrolment.

Students must carry their student ID cards at all times when travelling on the train.

Available for Sixth form or college students that offer the majority of the course being studied (50% or more of the course), and live more than 3 miles away are eligible.

Application assessments, Autumn Term 1 March to 30 September, Spring Term 1 October to 31 January. Standard charge £900 per year. Low income £450 per year. This can be paid by 3 termly payments.
