In the footsteps of the Bard...

By Camomile Shumba, Student, 17 September 2015

A group of 30 students recently visited Stratford-upon-Avon and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre: recently expanded and renovated, it is the most wonderful, theatrical venue.   Our group of students clearly enjoyed a dark, contemporary interpretation of The Merchant of Venice on the Friday evening and a stunning Othello on the Saturday night.  Student Camomile Shumba takes up the story:

“To say the least, we were impressed with the astonishing building that was the Youth Hostel! Beyond where we were staying, there was the beautiful town of Stratford upon Avon full of boats, people and the sun shining. Roaming around Stratford was fun, but the main events were the two plays.  The Merchant of Venice blew us all away with its exciting twist.”

Trip leader and English tutor Alison Shelley writes that “Stratford-upon-Avon is a great place to visit but it is the students that made the trip – they were a fun, enthusiastic and lively group.  We hope they took away new ideas about Shakespeare and theatre in general.”
