Arts & Culture Festival
By Bel Hathaway and Olivia Browne, Visual Arts Department, 17 July 2015
There has been a huge, college-wide burst of creativity at the College recently, as part of the Arts and Culture Festival organised by staff and students from the College Arts and Culture Committee. This has included a Fashion Catwalk show on the concourse, featuring student models wearing creations by Textiles students, music from College bands and a Henna stall . There was also an art trail and pop-up exhibition of student artwork curated by Art History students and a Graphics exhibition. In the Drama Studio there was Improvised Drama, Dance and music in response to mixed media sculptures by Art students, whereas upstairs in the Art Department there were workshops for students to opt into, including batik, painting and chemigrams. Recently there was also an excellent evening of music and Shakespearean drama in the Drama Studio.
It wasn’t just the Visual and Performing Arts Departments that got involved: The Chemistry department did some work with ‘Crystal Gardens’ and the Maths team did some ‘painting by random number’. The Media dept. offered students the chance to make their own podcast. Even the Library broke the usual rules about silent study, with some pop-up music and Shakespeare performances.
