Olympic Star gets the ball rolling for new Volleyball Club

By Mike Cura, Sports dept., 16 September 2014

The English Volleyball Association have chosen our college to run a new satellite volleyball club on Thursdays at 4.15- 5.30pm and Rachel Laybourne, who  was part of the Olympic Volleyball Team at the 2012 Olympics, kindly came along to put the students through their paces for the first session.

We currently have strong ties to Essex university , working closely with Alex Porter who is running a volleyball development programme there and promoting volleyball in variety of local schools. The club is being set up in conjunction with Volleyball England and Active Essex (The County Sports Partnership in Essex), who will provide high quality coaches to run the club.

The club will run on Thursdays from 4.15 to 5.30, is open to anybody in the town in school years 10 to 13 and will be funded for the first year by England Volleyball and Active Essex.

Ian MacNaughton, College Principal,  has kindly agree to offer the facility to the community free of charge in support of this initiative, so that college students and the local community can take up this great opportunity.
