College student James King (16), alongside fellow Brightlingsea Sailing Club cadet Eddie Bridle (17), recently won the silver medal and “top under 19 boat” awards at the prestigious 2015 RYA National Youth Championships, sailing a 16 foot Spitfire Catamaran, in the multihull class.
The annual event is the premier competition where UK youth sailors compete for the prize to be named top RYA youth sailor and was held over Easter at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.
The weather across the week was tricky with unexpected light winds and fog hampering proceedings on some days. As a result, eight races were held overall for the multihull class, with Eddie and James leaving it to the last race to snatch second place overall. Due to their success, Eddie and James have been selected to sail for the UK in the multihull class at the EuroSAF competition in Brest, France in July, which brings all of the national youth champions together from across Europe. Well done to them both!
