Event in support of Refugees
By Camomile Shumba, A Level Student, 26 April 2016
Inspired by the momentum of ‘Welcome Refugees Colchester’, we thought it would be incredibly powerful for our Sixth Form to be involved. To us, as younger people, we know the importance of every generation standing up to injustice, and we knew that if we made a collective pro-refugee sentiment others would follow. We feel that our event, with live music, a bake sale in aid of Unicef, interactive art exhibitions (made by students), myth busting, and many other aspects, showed the Sixth Form, and our generation, in its best light; showing a commitment to charitable, and humanitarian, issues. On top of that a few of our members attended a pledge assembly, promising to do more ! We are hoping to find ways to help the young refugees in Colchester truly feel welcome.
