Jack Petchey Awards
By Evette Hawkins, Business Department, 2 March 2016
Seventy seven students from eight schools and five clubs in Colchester received prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards at special annual events held at the Mercury Theatre on Monday 29th January 2016. Six students from The Sixth Form College were present out of the nine that received awards this year. The awards were presented by Cllr Theresa Higgins, Mayor of Colchester. The event honoured Achievement Award winners aged 11-25 who each received medallions to go with their framed certificate and a cheque for £200, which has already been spent for college resources and activities. They were nominated by their peers and leaders, winning awards for a variety of achievements but mostly for doing their best. Anne Steward was also celebrated with a Leader Award as she has demonstrated, in an outstanding way, an ability to motivate young people through her work on the Medics and Pre-Clinical course. She received a medallion and a framed certificate. The well attended event was a celebration of their achievements and we wish them all well in their future endeavours.
