Holocaust Memorial Programme - Poland Trip

By Rebecca McGarrigle, History Teacher, 16 November 2015

11 students recently returned from a three day trip to Poland as part of the college’s Holocaust Memorial Programme.

Our students met up with some German students and were shown round Kazimierz, the Jewish quarter of Krakow. They learned about life for the Jewish community before and during the Second World War and heard the testimony from a Polish child survivor of Auschwitz. The students also went to Auschwitz-Birkenau with the Germans and on the final day of the visit they met up with some Polish students to take part in a workshop focusing on contemporary issues related to the Holocaust followed by a tour of Krakow given by the Poles.

All three nations formed some close bonds on the visit and can be seen together in the photo. Many of our students will be keeping in touch with their Polish and German counterparts,
