Art and Design

The Art and Design Department at the Sixth Form incorporates Art, Photography, Art History, Textiles, Graphic Design, Product Design and Sculpture. The department offers a lively and engaging environment for students to develop their skills and an understanding of contemporary art. Each year many of our students go on to a Foundation Diploma or an Art and Design Degree course after completing their A Level.

Biology
|
Biology is one of the largest departments in the College. We are a very dynamic department, always looking to keep up-to-date with recent biological studies and developments.

Chemistry
|
The Chemistry department is an experienced and enthusiastic team of eight subject specialist teachers and two well qualified technicians. We have a wealth of experience of teaching A level.

Computing
|
The department offers a range of subjects all taught in a suite of purpose built air-conditioned classrooms. As well as the academic subjects (BTEC L2 and L3 ICT, and GCE Computer Science), we also provide the chance to study 3d computer modelling including the opportunity to complete an extended project qualification.

Earth Sciences
|
The Earth Sciences department includes A Level Geography, Geology and Environmental Science. Whilst Geography is the subject taken by the largest cohort of students, both the Environmental Science and Geology courses are extremely popular. All three subjects can be taken together or independently.

Economics and Business Studies
|
The Economics and Business Department offers a comprehensive range of related courses which as well as Economics and Business also includes Accounting and Financial Studies. There is a balance of skills and experience within the teaching teams with some tutors also having a vocational background working in industry and others having involvement working with exam boards.

English

The English Department is staffed by a team of dedicated, creative and experienced specialist teachers. We offer three A-levels: English Literature, English Language and English Language and Literature, and an opportunity to re-sit GCSE English Language, or study GCSE English Literature.

The History Department offers Four periods of history, as well as Politics, and Classical Civilisation.

Law
|
Law is a dynamic and exciting subject that has broad applicability to a range of careers and other study options. It allows you to understand the world around you from different perspectives and see how the law affects real life. The Law department at the Sixth Form College is staff by specialist law teachers with a wide range of professional experience.

Mathematics
|
We are a large department in College offering a wide range of courses designed to meet the needs of all students coming to College and hoping to further their mathematical education. We are a lively and enthusiastic department that works hard to offer students a rich and varied experience in the classroom.

Media and Film Studies
|
The Media and Film Studies Department offers a range of successful and popular courses in a purposeful and welcoming environment. Highly qualified, enthusiastic staff, including a dedicated Media Technician support students on A Level Media Studies, Film Studies and GCSE Media Studies. These courses aim to build on and extend enjoyment and knowledge of a range of media forms by providing students with the opportunity to study a number of set texts, explore production skills and develop media literacy.

Modern Languages
|
The Modern Languages department consists of two full-time and five part-time members of staff, together with four language assistants and approximately three hundred students. Each year we have a significant number of students studying two or three languages and we pride ourselves on the very large range of courses and languages that we run in our department.

Performing Arts
|
We offer a wide range of Performing Arts A Level courses which include Dance, Drama and Theatre, Music and Music Technology. We also offer BTEC Level 3 Certificate and Extended Certificate in Performing Arts. Students can also choose to take an EPQ in Performance and in Dance.

Philosophy and Religious Studies
|
The Philosophy and Religious Studies Department is one of the biggest providers of A Level Philosophy and RS in the country. We are a lively and enthusiastic team, made up of subject specialists who are passionate about the subjects. A number of the department are also examiners for A Level Philosophy and Religious Studies. We are constantly developing ways to deliver exciting, creative and dynamic lessons whilst supporting and nurturing our students to ensure they achieve their full potential.

Physics and Electronics
|
At the college we have an experienced team of Physics and Electronics staff. There are three well equipped Physics labs as well as a dedicated Electronics room with individual workstations containing all the equipment necessary to build, test, and analyse electronic circuits. In your time at college you will have opportunities to use a wide range of equipment including electronic sensors and data logging, video tracking, computer simulations and more.

Psychology
|
Psychology is a very popular subject with approximately 500 students opting to take Psychology each year. We also offer a new Criminology course which offers an extended certificate. This is a large department with specialist staff who are experts in their field having studied their subject to degree level. Many of our staff are also experienced examiners and team leaders.

Sociology
|
Our department is one of the largest in the country, and also incorporates Health and Social Care, Citizenship and EPQ Anthropology. We have 11 sociology specialists within the department. We are a very dynamic department, always looking to keep up-to-date with recent sociological studies and developments. Several members of the department are current examiners for AQA Sociology, while other members of the department have written and contributed to the Sociology and Anthropology textbooks used at A Level.
