Student Ella Neale has become the first winner of the College 'Scholar Athlete' Award for dedication and high achievement in both sport and study. A great sportswoman, respected by all, Ella plans to go on to do a degree in Physiotherapy at Brunel.

The new award was established by retiring Assistant Principal and Senior tutor Faith Ressmeyer.

She explained: " As the basketball coach for 23 seasons at The Sixth Form College Colchester, I wanted to leave behind something that would acknowledge qualities I value in anyone who combines sport with learning. This award is given to students of this age in the United States, from where I came thirty five years ago, and I've always thought it would be good to have it here. It shows that sportspeople are valued for both their ability on the court or field as well as what they can do in the classroom and that one doesn't cancel out the possibility of the other.'
