Sixth Form College students last weekend organised an 'Auction of Promises' which raised over £4,000. As teacher David Huggon explained: " the funds will go towards an expedition to Ecuador in July, which myself, 20 other students and 3 teachers from the college are embarking on. We are going for three weeks, and are going to help a small school in the capital, Quito. Before going to Ecuador, all of the group is fundraising to build upon the work of past expeditions, which have already funded a new computer suite to link the Quito School with local primary schools and the internet".

There were over 70 lots in all, ranging from dog walking services to holidays in Turkey. With a general election looming, the event was given a topical air by the presence of Will Quince, who is standing as conservative candidate for Colchester. One of the items in the catalogue was tea for four in the company of his Lib Dem rival and current Colchester MP Bob Russell MP on the House of Commons tea balcony overlooking the River Thames. The item went for £80, and Will Quince was very gracious about it.
