Celebrating the Chinese
New Year
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, students from the Colchester Sixth Form College International Society recently organised an event on the college concourse, where fifty red balloons were dropped down into the crowd. As is traditional, each balloon was tethered to a red envelope containing a gift, including a meal for two at The North Hill Noodle Bar and a range of Chinese confectionaries.
Joelle Leilich, Chair of the International Society, really got her teeth into the Year of The Tiger by arriving dressed in full tiger costume, to sell fortune cookies aid of Vision For China (a charity that runs orphanages in China). Also the college refectory served Chinese food and there was a screening of the Chinese film In the Mood for Love.
