Exam Regulations - Summary
Do not under any circumstances bring a mobile phone, walkman or any other unauthorised material into the exam room. These items are strictly forbidden and you may be disqualified if you do not adhere to these rules. Mobile phones may be left in your locker or with the General Office where a ticket system is in operation.
Remember to bring everything you need with you to each exam such as rulers, calculators (if allowed), protractors, etc. You are not allowed to borrow equipment and we are unable to provide any equipment at the start of an exam. From September 2007 there has been a change to JCQ regulations - you must write in black ink - unless instructed otherwise.
All morning examinations start at 9.15 am and afternoon examinations start at 1.45 pm except some Key Skills exams. If you are doing more than one exam in a ny session you must still arrive at 9.15 am or 1.45 pm.
If you are ill on the day of an examination please telephone the College on 01206 500700 or the Exams Office on 01206 500718/500789 to let us know.
There is a full version of these exam regulations available on the reverse of your personal exams timetable.

Collection of Exams Certificates
The distribution of all exam certificates is from the exams department.
The certificates from exams taken in that academic year, and mainly summer exams are available during December.
A2 Certificates (for students no longer enrolled at college) will be posted to the last known address on our records by recorded delivery.
These students are invited to attend The Awards Evening, usually held during the last week of term in December, and be presented with their certificates. Should you wish to obtain further information, please contact the Principals Secretary on 01206 500754.
Students still enrolled in college will have their certificates distributed via their personal tutors at registration.
Certificates will only be retained in this office for one year, and then will be returned to the exam boards. It is vital that you retain statements of results and certificates in a safe place as you must be aware, that if you lose your certificates Exam Boards do not always issue duplicates. A fee is set by each board for a letter of confirmation of your Grades and UMS marks.
Internal Appeals
Appeals against internal assessment (including controlled assessments) of work for external qualifications
The Sixth Form College is committed to ensuring that whenever its staff assess students’ work for external qualification, this is done fairly, consistently and in accordance with the specification for the qualification concerned. Assessments should be conducted by staff who have appropriate knowledge, understanding and skills, and who have been trained in this activity. Students’ work should be produced and authenticated according the requirements of the examinations board. Where a set of work is divided between staff, consistency should be assured by internal moderation and standardisation.
If a student feels that this may not have happened in relation to his/her work, s/he may make use of this appeals procedure. Note that appeals may only be made against the process that led to the assessment and not against the mark or grade.
The existence of this procedure is made known to students by reference in the Student Handbook.
This procedure is available from the Exams Office, and on the college website.
| 1 |
Appeals should be made as soon as possible, and must be made at least two weeks before the end of the last externally assessed paper in the examinations series. (So the appeal must be made before a date in mid-June for the summer series as presently timetabled.) |
| |
|
| 2 |
Appeals should be made in writing to the Examinations Officer. On receipt of a written appeal, an enquiry into the internal assessment will be conducted by the Examinations Officer and the Vice Principal. This enquiry will consider whether the procedures used in the internal assessment conformed to the published requirements of the Awarding Body and the examinations code of practice of the QCA. This will be done before the end of the series. |
| |
|
| 3 |
You will be informed in writing of the outcome of the appeal, including any correspondence with the board, any changes made to the assessment of your work, and any changes made to improve matters in future. |
| |
|
| 4 |
The outcome of the appeal will be made known to the Principal. A written record of the appeal will be kept and made available to the awarding body at their request. Should the appeal bring any significant irregularity to light, the awarding body will be informed.
After work has been assessed internally it is moderated by the awarding body (examinations board) to ensure consistency between centres. Such moderation frequently changes the marks awarded for internally assessed work. That is outside the control of and is not covered by this procedure. If you have concerns about it, please ask for a copy of the appeals procedure of the relevant examinations board. |
